I can mop up the floors and clean up the mud, vacuum the carpets and shake out the rugs. I can clean the house and do the chores, even wash the laundry once more. But I can’t replace the smiles and the laughter, those will live on long after. Long after the pawprints fade and the collars are finally put away. They may be muddy and they may be gross but they are my friends that matter the most. I promised them a life full of joy and much more, of toys and mud and food galore. I wouldn’t trade the muddiest of days for a house with no love where I never got to play.
