Doc and the Chicken Sandwich

Let me introduce myself my name is Doc, or Docdog as my humans call me when I am in trouble and not in trouble, kina confusing if you ask me.

My owner says I have an “intense personality”, maybe its because I am sort of a border collie, perhaps, some sort of border collies I have met do seem to be pretty intense that’s for sure.

I know I have bat ears, its the blue heeler in me, I get asked about this alot.

So let me tell you about the chicken sandwich incident.

First of all, this was clearly the sandwiches fault, as it was calling me names I could not ignore.

You see it started as any other ride in the truck, with my mom driving, and grandfuma in the passenger seat, and me myself and I in the backseat, running back and forth so I could look out both windows at the same time.

Somewhere around noon my mom and grandfurma decided it was time for them to eat, so they went and got a nice lunch at the favorite chicken sandwich place that they always go to.  They like to get the sandwiches, waffle fries, and of course the largest lemonade available.  My grandfurma always says they have the very “best lemonade in the tri-county area”. Whatever that means I do not know.

Granfuma decides that she wants to go into a store before they leave town, so she puts her chicken sandwich back into the box, and sets it on the dashboard to keep it away from “the border collie in the back seat”

Prior to my mom getting out of the truck, she points her finger at me, and says ” you see that ! leave it alone Doc!” I’m like geeezz okay, Doc will leave it completely alone.

Usually I am pretty good, I mind my own business, the outside world usually keeps me pretty entertained, especially if there is a bird to talk to, or a dog in another vehicle.

I was doing great until I realized the bird had flown away, and all I had were the thoughts in my head to keep me busy. Because I am a border collie, boredom sets in real quick some days.

Suddenly from out of nowhere comes this small voice, “hey you look over here!” I am like outta my mind with excitement, a friend has found me, my boredom will now bother somebody else for awhile. The sound is coming from the chicken sandwich box on the dash ( or so I think in my mind).

I creep over to the box, gently nudging it into my mouth, I carry it over to the center console, set it down, and pry open the lid using 1 paw and my canine teeth.

Yuck! there are tomatoes on the sandwich, I quickly take those and the lettuce off and set them aside, how do humans eat this stuff!

The sandwich was really good, chicken was cooked to perfection, the bun was nice with the mayo on it, and I really liked the bacon, that made the while thing super delicious.

I put the sandwich box in grandfurmas seat, so she could have it when she got back, you know I wanted to do something nice.

When mom and grandfuma returned, I was so proud of myself for not making a mess.

Mom opens the truck door, looks at me and looks at the box, she loudly exclaims “Doc what have you done!!”

You see I have this habit of smiling when I get in trouble, and I was smiling big!

Mom and grandfurma start laughing, because I took the sandwich out of the box, ate it , put the lettuce and tomato in the box, and put that on the front seat.

“Doc you are just too much!!”

It even worked out super well, because grandfurma now needed lunch, we stopped again and of course I got some snacks from that meal too.
