  • Preheat the oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. In a large bowl, combine oats, wheat germ, coconut, sunflower seeds, and nutmeg. Blend well. Combine brown sugar, water, oil, honey, molasses, salt, cinnamon, and vanilla in a large saucepan. Heat until the sugar is dissolving, but do not boil.
  • Pour the syrup over the dry ingredients and stir until well-coated. Spread into fixed 13x9 baking pans or cookie sheets with sides. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring occasionally. Bake 15 minutes longer for a crunchier texture. Cool. Add raisins or other dried fruit, if desired. Put in airtight containers. Label. Store it in a cool, dry place. Use within 6 months. It makes about 20 cups of granola mix.
