Do you have a recipe that makes you think of your mom, grandma or sister?

You know that one person that always found the time to cook a three course meal, and make it look so darn easy.

The kitchen ran like a smooth machine, the shelves were always stocked with every ingredient that was needed for any recipe.

You who I’m talking about, the women in your life that left a huge impression when it came to cooking dinner for a large family and the food was always hot and delicious.

See I came from a very traditional background, mom would spend her days keeping the house clean, planning the meals, and cooking having everything timed to the second for when my dad arrived home.

There was this harmony between mom, the fridge, the stove and the oven, they all worked as a team.

To top it off, mom taught piano lessons in the afternoon everyday, to eager young musicians entering our house with the hopes of being an amazing pianist some day!

I have so many memories of mom in the kitchen, checking on dinner, or putting the pie in the oven, and one of her students plucking away at the piano in the next room.   Mom would kindly say ” watch your timing dear” or ” Make sure your on the right notes now”.

Laughing I did than and now as I look back, it was like she was the conductor of her private symphony.

The Beef Stroganoff nights were always my favorite, as the meat and onions simmered, it filled the house with the deepest richest aroma.

As mom poured wine for herself, she also poured a cup into the beef to add a depth of flavor.

The beef stroganoff is so rich in flavor, from the beef, mushrooms and cream sauce.  When you pile a good sized spoonful on the egg noodles, the stroganoff is real comfort food.

These nights were some of her happiest, the wine, the beef and the piano students, it all filled her with joy and love of her music and  her life.

We always had a three course meal no matter what!

The Beef Stroganoff was paired with a nice side salad, noodles and of course the pie of the day, could be a dutch apple crumble or a lemon meringue.
